0 Winners on and off the field

For a lot of us Thanksgiving is about football and family (ok, maybe not in that order). Besides the Dallas Cowboys victory, two things stood out yesterday. The incredible generosity and caring of two great athletes participating in the games yesterday.

DeMarcus Ware is just a tremendous player on the field but there is more to him that his on the field exploits and accomplishments. The Thanksgiving games covered some of his charitable work including efforts to fight childhood obesity. Each game aired this special commercial about the program that you should watch if you didn't catch it on Thanksgiving.

The other player… Charles Woodson of the Green Bay Packers. He’s making a really difference for so many children fighting cancer, heart disease, kidney disorders and autism. He recently donated $2 million to his alma mater the University of Michigan Mott which is building a Children's Hospital and Women's hospital. The AP wrote about his gift and desire to help.

Two great players showing that they are winners on and off the field.

0 Giving Thanks

Another year and so much to be thankful for. It’s been a tough one for so many families because of the recession. I know better days are ahead. And tomorrow is just one of those days where we all come together with family and close friends. Teresa and I are thankful for having the opportunity to be able to help people in our community. From my family to yours – Happy Thanksgiving.

0 UT Dallas Center for BrainHealth Award

As you know Teresa and I are major supporters of the UT Dallas Center for BrainHealth. Recently the center gave it's Legacy Award to T. Boone Pickens for the tremendous amount of support he has has provided to the center's initiatives. I encourage you to read more about the evening by clicking here.  Brain health has touched his family like it has ours as well as many other families across the country. His mother died of a brain tumor 30-years ago. The center is leading the way with world-class research. We are happy to play a role in those efforts.

0 IHAD Kids Coming Home

Every year from Thanksgiving through the end of the year I’m reminded of the critical role the I Have A Dream Foundation plays in so many lives.  Many of the kids – who only a few years ago were working hard to get through school – are now coming home for a Thanksgiving or winter break from college.

It’s just amazing to see so many of them overcome the longest of odds. Each year around this time Teresa and I  plan some special events from kids in IHAD Foundation program in Dallas. Whether a field trip or opening up our home it’s just a great time for us to get together. A while back someone in the IHAD program put together a short video of the some of the pictures taken at these yearly gatherings. There’s a very inspirational 30-second introduction commercial to start it off. Hope you get a chance to watch it you'll see some truly amazing individuals who are working towards their dream.

0 New Testing Guidelines for Cancer

There are more stories out today on the newest guidelines for cancer testing. Second set of new guidelines in as many days.  I have the New Times Story here for all of you to read. This looks at the new guidelines for cervical cancer testing.  Earlier this week they handed down new guidelines for breast cancer testing.

Teresa and I contribute to the fight to beat back cancer. We all know someone -- or some family -- that has been affected by it. Well I thought this week’s developments were worth a post. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on them.
