0 Bob Hope Classic — Wrap Up

I had a great time at the Bob Hope Classic.  Just a wonderful event and a great way to raise money for the community.  We had an exciting finish (although I wasn't in that hunt!) and made sure we brought in more money to help local charities.  All told the Classic has given away nearly $50 million in its fifty years of existence.  Not bad and many more years ahead.  Thanks.

0 Bob Hope Classic

Sometimes I'm able to combine my charitable work with one of my great passions in life such as golf.  For many years I been either participating or giving to the Bob Hope Classic annual golf tournament.  Over the years the charity event has literally given millions of dollars back to the community.  What a wonderful event.  I'm participating this year -- we got started yesterday.  Very rarely would you ever have to twist my arm to go golfing and being able to help out a tremendous charity just makes it all the better.

0 Texting for Haiti Relief

Those that know me know that I'm not a big "tech" guy.  But I've been reading a lot of stories after the earthquake that ripped apart Haiti that a lot of people are making their donations through what they call a "mobile giving campaign".  They are calling it a new trend for charitable giving which I think is great.  As of last Friday night they reportedly raised over $8 million using the new texting campaign.  That's a good start and good sign for families in Haiti that need our help, generosity and prayers.

0 Tragedy Unfolding in Haiti

Americans by nature are generous in the face of human tragedies.  And what we are all seeing in Haiti is just tremendously gut wrenching.  I lived in Louisiana for many years so the Katrina hit close to home for me and my family.  We hate to see other people go through so destruction.  Their are a lot of relief organizations like the American Red Cross out there that stand ready to help people in need.  The families of Haiti need all of our help and prayers as they try to recover this terrible tragedy unfold before our eyes.  Teresa and I encourage everyone to do what they can.

0 I Have A Dream Foundation

It's been a while since my last post.  Took a little break at the beginning of the year but now I'm back at it.  As I've written many times before, the I Have A Dream (IHAD) Foundation chapter in Dallas is a wonderful organization that's sole mission is focused on helping disadvantageed kids get a fighting chance to succeed in life.  One of my former colleagues at Deep South is Chairman of the local chapter.  He was the one that helped to get me involve with thier efforts nearly 15-years ago.  I'm thankfully for him making me aware of IHAD -- so many great kids and experiences.  Recently he wrote and posted a wonderful essay about my involvement with IHAD.  If you get a chance you I thought you might like to read it.
