1 Make It Right — New Orleans

A while ago I posted about this TV show contractor, Mike Holmes, on one of my other blogs.  He's the guy behind the show Holmes on Homes where he and his crew come in and fix renovations gone wrong for desperate homeowners.  He says his mission is to make it right.  Those are good words to live by.  Well it turns out he's also involved in several charities through a foundation he started as well as helping in the recovery efforts in New Orleans.  In particular in the lower 9th ward.  He's certainly doing his part.  Worth taking some time to review.

Teresa and I wanted to take a moment to offer our heartfelt wishes and appreciation to all the men and women serving in our armed forces today as well the Veterans and the soldiers that died protecting our freedom.  All of whom deserve our thanks and gratitude on this solemn day of remembrance.  Thank you all.

0 Brief History of Alzheimers

How did they come up with the name Alzheimers?  Reading this article sheds some interesting light on the disease.  Fascinating facts about the first know case and how they studied it early on.  Ultimately it was named after Alois Alzheimer who was the first to identify the disease back in the early 1900's.  The study of the human brain has progressed light-years in the past decade but this debilitating disease has been around a lot longer than that.  Hopefully one day we will find a cure but getting there takes knowledge.  Reading this article and about Alois Alzheimer is a small step that's worth taking.

0 Promising New Alzheimer Vaccine

I know they've tested Alzheimer vaccines before, but someone brought this recent article to our attention.   Thought it was important and that you all would want to see.  It looks like they're close to testing a new Alzheimer vaccine in Europe.  As you know, Teresa and I are very focused on brain research efforts.  This is an encouraging sign in the fight to eradicate this disease that affects so many families across the world.

0 Haiti Update — U.S. Military Operations to End in June

At the height of our efforts to help the people of Haiti after the earthquake we had well over 20,000 U.S. military personnel working to mobilize rescue and relief efforts.  They did a tremendous job helping a country in need.  Currently have 2,200 troops still there and they will draw down further in June.  You can read the announcement here.  Although our military's presence has to wind down, our efforts to help the children and family go on.  The Haitian president estimated it would take three years just to remove the debris and then even more to rebuild.  To rebuild their country and their lives they will need help from people like you and I for many years to come.
